India’s First Electric SUV – Hyundai Kona 2019 Launched: Price, Specs, Details, Features

India is all set to welcome, Hyundai Kona, the country’s first ever electric SUV that can travelĀ  452 km in a single charge. The legendary Hyundai is ready to be launched today on July 9, 2019.

 

Hyundai Motor India Ltd has finally announced the launch of Hyundai Kona Electric Car in India today, on 9th July 2019. The much-awaited Kona Electric will be the first ever electric SUV to hit the roads of India. The vehicle will soon be joined by a huge SUV line-up later this year, that includes Hyundai Creta, Venue, and Tucson.

 

Hyundai Kona Electric SUV 2019 Launched in India

 

Hyundai Kona Electric SUV 2019 has finally been launched in India. In the first phase, Hyundai has allocated 1,000 units of the Kona Electric for the Indian market. The units have been imported. However, the future models are expected to reach India in a CBU (completely built units) and will be assembled at Hyundai’s Chennai plant.

 

According to Hyundai official, the company will import more units after seeing the user demand. It is also exploring the option to source EV components (electric parts) locally to keep costs low.

 

Engine – Variants – Battery:

 

The Hyundai Kona SUV will be available in two variants: Electric and Electric Lite.

 

The Kona Electric will be more powerful and have a 64 kWh lithium-ion battery with a max power of 201.2 bhp and torque 395 Nm. The Electric variant will have a driving range of 482 km on a single 9 hours charge.

 

The Kona Electric Lite will come with a 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and offer peak power of 134.13 bhp and 395 Nm. The Lite variant will have a driving range of 312 km on a single 6 hours charge.

 

Hyundai will also separately sell a 100kW DC fast charger, which will have the ability to charge the SUV up to 80% in an hour.

 

Interior & Technology Features:

 

Both the variants of Hyundai Kona Electric are loaded with a variety of supreme features. Some of these include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, climate control, heated and ventilated seats and much more.

 

As far as the safety features are concerned, the car comes with 6 airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), blind spot detection, hill-start assist, real-time traffic alert, emergency braking, reverse camera and more.

 

Price:

 

At the current moment, the Hyundai Kona Electric has been priced between Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Hyundai has a target of selling at least 50 Kona units per month, with the car initially being sold in company-selected dealerships in 20 major Indian cities.
