During the environmental pollution case’s hearing in Supreme Court of Pakistan, Water Board Managing Directer (MD) confessed that no treatment plant is functional in Karachi.
Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani pointed out that plazas have taken most of the Malir canal space and there is no place left for monsoon rain water to pass through and that watershed is impossible in this situation. He also said that the 300 feet Malir canal has reduced to only two feet in Defense area.
The Judge said that Punjab is Pakistan’s part but it feels rather differnt to see development in Lahore.
G N Qureshi, Senior member of Board of Revenue said that the Sindh Board of Revenue has allocated 300 acres of land for S3 Project.
Lastly, the court ordered the authorities to submit the maps of all monsoon drains and the hearing was postponed until June 11.
